About the Film
One town. One flood. A new revolution in the name of art, hope, and freedom.
BOOMTOWN is a powerful docudrama inspired by true events — when a band of unlikely rebels back in the 1970s in Frederick, Maryland ignited a cultural revolution that saved their sinking town and sparked a renaissance of creativity. Fifty years later, in 2025, Lexi Brown—a bold college student studying Art History—returns to uncover the truth hidden in her late father Amos Brown’s newspaper archives. As she pieces together the past, she discovers that the spark that once saved the city might be exactly what’s needed to save its future.
Drawing on historical facts and community accounts, BOOMTOWN explores how a small community in Maryland rose from the wreckage of a devastating flood to earn the title of “Top 50 Best Places to Live in the U.S.” (Money Magazine) and “Most Beautiful Main Street in America” (Reader’s Digest). The story of BOOMTOWN captures a compelling narrative that innovation, creativity, and inclusion are a blueprint for prosperity – one we can’t take for granted, and one we’ll have to fight to protect.
